Wandering Wednesday

Hello parents and students, 


Today was a success! 

I am so impressed with how many students portrayed this month's IB learner profile: risk takers. I saw students taking safe risks and doing something outside of their comfort zone. They should all be proud of what they were able to accomplish. I have added some pictures from the trip. I will add more as I get them from teachers and chaperones.

A World Without ... Research:
I know that most students will be very tired from today's trip, but hopefully they did the homework yesterday. Please try to make sure that the research is still completed for tomorrow!

A note from Ms. Helen, our Admissions Coordinator - As you are aware, the re-registration season is upon us and we have recently sent home packages with your child(ren). We value your loyalty and commitment to our school community and would love to continue our partnership by offering priority enrollment for our current SJA families. We kindly ask that you take a moment to review your financial statement and complete the information in the package and make any necessary changes to your place of residence, employment, email changes or any medical information that the administration should be aware of. Please be aware that in order to secure your child’s enrolment, it is imperative that you submit your re-enrollment package and fees no later than February 12, 2018 at 4:00 PM. After this date, all available grade-level spaces will be open to our families on waitlists who will then have the opportunity to secure any vacant positions.
Please bring in re-registration forms as soon as possible to ensure your child's enrollment. 

A note from Ms. Bancud 

The system is now open to order Hot Lunch for February. Lunch orders are due Friday, January 26^th, 2018. After this date, our system closes and is unable to open for February ordering.  Please make sure your child is under the correct

All payments are due on Friday, February 9^th, 2018. This month's special is Vegetable Stir Fry with Jasmine Rice that will be available every Friday!

 Payment Instructions

•   There are two options to pay for lunches. Cash and Freshbooks. 

◦                     Shortly after completing your order, a Freshbooks invoice will be sent to your email.

◦                     It may take one or two days to process your order to Freshbooks, so please be check your email diligently for the invoice.  

•   We no longer accept cheque as a method of payment.

After care invoices have all been sent out via freshbooks – please be sure to check your junk mail. Payments can be made online and are due January 29th.

Teasing Tuesday

Hello parents and students, 

Today, we had a busy day. We started off by learning about the multiplying decimals by multiples of 10. Here is a video that walks the students through it in case they get confused. Also, please note 
1km = 1000 m. I also have given the students their quizzes back, I individually conferenced the students and we went through goals and errors. Some students have gotten extra worksheets (rounding and adding/subtracting) in order to ensure they understand their errors. The additional sheets will be due Thursday. 

In language, the students continued to work on their rough copy. Most students have finished the first few paragraphs and some are even practicing. We will continue to work on the speeches on Thursday. 

In UOI, the students worked on their research for their endangered animals. If they did not finish, then they must finish the research sheet before Thursday. They do not have to start the poster yet.

Ski trip information 

• Be here at 6:30am
• Wear warm clothes (casual), gloves, sunglasses/goggles, snow pants 
• Bring an extra pair of clothes especially SOCKS! (the more the better)
• Pack an extra large lunch with lots of liquids (water especially), bring money for anything additional 
• We will be back by 4:30pm hopefully but I will stay in touch through text message. Just in case you do not have it, you must join by messaging @3d3d94 at the number (438) 500-0725.

Many Things Monday

Dear parents and students, 

I hope everyone has had a great Monday so far. We had a very busy Monday. We started off with our math quiz, I have marked most of the quizzes and hopefully the students will get the results tomorrow. Tomorrow, we will continue the second-half of decimals specifically multiplying and dividing decimals. 

In language, we completed our first literature circle for Hatchet. I have marked all the literature circles; I found that majority of the students are making sure to give thorough answers. I would recommend that moving forward the students make sure that they do the following...

• literary critic: students practice reading at home with enthusiasm, tone and pauses. 
• discussion moderator: create only higher level questions using the chart
• summarizer: make sure the summary is organized (beginning, middle, and end) and has all important details 
• Connector: try to create higher-level connections 

In UOI time today, we focused on the speech and creating our rough copy. The students have been given a checklist that they have to follow and they will be working on that the rest of the week.

Field Trip Friday

Hello parents and students,

We had a wonderful day today at the aquarium where we learned all about the biodiversity of the ocean and the problem that invasive species cause. I will post pictures below of the field trip.

After our field trip, we had a chance for students to check their math review and get extra worksheets. I will be posting the answer key and worksheets in the homework/reminder section. We will be having a quiz on decimals on Monday. The quiz will be a combination of the review as well as the word problems from in-class and extra worksheets.

We also discussed the literature circle. This time I expect more detailed and thoughtful answer since this is the second literature circle. Make sure to check the rubric to see how to achieve a level 4!
