Mathematics Monday

Hello parents and students,

Today, we started off the day with an awards assembly for IB attributes, November's winner was Christiaan. Here are pictures of the winners.

Next, in math we started our new unit, geometry! Our first lesson was on angles. The students have been using protractors to learn about the different angles. Here is a video that will help with the concepts. The homework sheets are due Wednesday.

In language, we finished our final literature circle. For their final summative, the students pick a project from the list provided and will be completing over the next week or so. The project can only be completed in class.

In UOI, we started our next unit, Biodiversity (Variety is the Spice of Life). We discussed what biodiversity means and then we used the classification method to classify different objects and start thinking like scientists. Here are some pictures from the activity.

We then went to visit Mr.Palumbo's grade 7, who created interactive museum exhibits. Here are some pictures from the museum.

Student-led conferences: Just to clarify, the interviews are conducted by your child. This is their opportunity to showcase all the work they have been doing and how they can improve. I will be there to facilitate but it is all about your child. The interview slots are only 10 minutes. After this, if you feel you would still like to speak to me about any further questions or concerns, I will be more than happy to set up another meeting time with you.

Report cards: Report cards have been sent home today along with the Ontario Writing Assessment graph and the Math graphs. Please go through them this weekend and hand back the last page of the report card with your comments as soon as possible

Book fair:
  • **A note from our Librarian, Ms. Hayward - Our Very First Book Fair is Coming Soon – Yee-Haw!

“Saddle Up & Read” with the first Scholastic Book Fair at St. Jude’s Academy – December 7 to December 14. There will be lots of exciting books, posters, bookmarks, pens and pencils, etc. to choose from! Proceeds will go to buying great new books for our library. More Parent Volunteers are also needed.  If you’d like to help out please contact Ms. Hayward at hhayward@stjudesacademy.com. Keep an eye out for more information here on your teacher’s blog, on Facebook, and on the Library blog: https://libraryatsja.blogspot.ca/**

**The student crew is getting ready to run a few games starting Friday and into next week. One of them will stop by each of the classes to introduce the game and give each student their "free" guess ballot or to play the game. Extra guesses can be bought for 25c each or $5 guesses for a dollar so please let your students know to bring their change if they'd like to participate.**

Year Ahead Day – SJA is excited to announce that Year Ahead Day is happening again this year!  All SJA PYP students will be participating in this exciting event on Tuesday, December 5th.   Year Ahead Day is a fun and interactive day for the students at SJA to spend a day in the class of the grade level ahead of them (example: SK students spend their day as Grade 1 students, Grade 4 students, spend their day as Grade 5 students, Grade 6 students spend their day as Grade 7 students, etc.).  This is a great way for the students at SJA to get a glimpse into their future life at SJA!  Students can get to know the teachers, see their future classroom, and take part in activities they will be participating in next year. My Grade 5’s will be spending the day with Mrs. Haag.  I would like to remind everyone that although they will be with Mrs. Haag, she may not be their classroom teacher next year.**

Have a great day,

Ms.Khan
