Year-Ahead Tuesday

Hello parents and students,

Today, the students got to experience year-ahead day. The students were with Mrs.Haag today and sounds like they had a ton of fun and are super excited for next year. For more information about their day here is a link to her blog. http://haagsja.blogspot.ca. Be sure and read reminders/homework at the bottom of the blog.

Future Grade 5's

We had so much fun with the future grade 5's. They got to experience a full day of the grade 5 curriculum.

Math: measurement unit - money: We did an auction. The students paired up and were given bags of money. They had to first count the money and write it on their tables. They then bid for 10 items, they had to figure out how to balance their budget and how much change they have left. we even discussed social democracy and how we aid people in the Canadian system (UOI: voting).

UOI: Biodiversity: We began with a clip from the Lion King and the circle of life. We also learned about food chains and food webs. The students' challenge was to work together and create a giant food web on their table.

Language: Novel Study- In grade 5, the students get to read Percy Jackson, so we read-aloud half of the first chapter of the book. The students then had to write the second-half; they had to make it creative and try to predict what would happen. We then read the second-half of the chapter. The students were so attentive and loved the book.

Later on, we also had reading buddies with the SK's.

Overall, it was an amazing day with the students. I can't wait to teach some of them next year.
