Back-to-work Wednesday

Dear parents and students,

We had a great day back and we got straight into the swing of things. We started the day off with our new number sense unit, decimals. This unit will be broken down into two quizzes rather than one unit test. Today, we learned about tenths and hundredths, here is a video that helps to better understand that topic.

In language, we watched a video on persuasive writing and then all the students wrote down their speech topics and I signed off on them. Over the next week, the students will be working on brainstorming, researching and creating a rough copy for their speeches.

In UOI, we reviewed the classification of living things and the 5 kingdoms. Next, we looked at different phyla trees (plantae and animalia) and the different vocabulary we can use to describe them. Afterwards, the students completed a group vocabulary challenge were the students had to work together using different resources to find the definitions of animalia characteristics.  The students did a brilliant job working together; here are some pictures from today.

Then, the students were put into groups and assigned a ‘mysterious’ animalia phylum. They have to work together with their partner to create an ID card and a presentation to explain their phylum. The presentations will be on Friday.
