Today Thursday April 5th

Due to Student-Led Conferences our schedule today was very different. With the extra class time the students had opportunities to work on their homework.

Mathematics:

We finished off the last page on Similar Figures from the JumpMath Program. Then we moved on to Line of Symmetry. Since I had already covered this topic a few days before, the students were able to work right away on their Math questions.

Language:

We handed out the Literature Circle papers for our Novel Study and reminded everyone what Group Member Number they are. Students either worked on "All About Me" projects, Novel Study, spelling or reading.

Unit of Inquiry:

We completed our debate today and it was intense at the end. The last government to be represented was Indirect Democracy and that table group had chosen the United States as an example of their government type. There was lots of rebuttal provided by many students.

From there we moved on to studying about our Canadian Government. We watched a couple of movies. I will place the links here in case any students wish to view them again.

Then we played a matching game. We got out the chalk markers and drew 3 large circles on each table. Each table group was then given pictures of different government services. The object was to correctly sort the different images according to what level of government provided those services (Federal, Provincial & Municipal). As the tables raced against the clock, I flipped over the correct ones and each group continued until done. The students had a great time matching them up.

There is a quiz on our UOI tentatively planned for next Thursday April 12th, 2018. It will be on the levels of government and Canada's current political situation/people.

As a reminder: St.Jude's Academy is now affiliated with an official soccer club called St. Jude's FC. Students of St.Jude are given a 33% discount that will allow them to join the club and play competitively with other soccer clubs this spring and summer (starting most likely April to September). The students will be working with excellent coaches and going to competitions on the weekend. Practices will be held (most likely) right after school twice a week. In April, besides the soccer field, the students will have a chance to play in our official soccer dome! I think this is a great opportunity!! The students have been given forms (I can e-mail extras), they should try to submit the form as soon as possible.
