I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. On Thursday, we were missing more than half our class! Fortunately, choir was still able to get the full math lesson before they left. In math, we learned all about finding the area of a triangle using this equation:
We also learned how to calculate the area of irregular polygons; You must split the shape into easy shapes (triangles and rectangles). Here is a great video that overviews how to calculate area.
In UOI, the students worked on their Prezi for their project 101. The Prezis will be due on Tuesday. I would like the students to really discover the program themselves, if they get stuck or confused they should look it up on Google or watch a youTube before they ask for help from parents or me. However, I would be more than happy to answer any questions. Here are two Prezi's I have made in the past when I was a student :) . Link 1 and Link 2.
Also, on Wednesday we made a success criteria for presentations. Here is the list below, use it as a checklist to make sure the presentations include all necessary components.

In language/art, the students worked on their art projects which are also due on Tuesday. Most students are finished their art piece and are just writing their written component (2-3 sentences about why your art piece is important to the Cree culture and what it might be used for). The written component will be displayed with your art piece on Arts' night.
Reminders/Homework
- Math: Finding area of polygons and triangles worksheets
- Language: Spelling test deferred to Tuesday, Cree Art due Tuesday
- UOI: Prezi's due Tuesday
- Music: Memorize song for concert, check-in Monday
- Arts Night concert on May 30th - will be going to theatre for rehearsal on May 28th and 30th
