Tanning Tuesday

Hello parents and students,

I hope you are having a great evening so far. We had a warm and brilliant day today that included enjoying the great weather outside.

We started the day with UOI, where we discussed campaigning and the importance of promoting your party. Next, the students spent time with their groups working on speeches, slides, flags and finishing up anything else that needed work. Remember, Thursday is Election Day.

In math, we completed the final lesson in this unit, it was all about relating patterns to distance, time and speed. As a class, we worked on the quick review together and then the students completed question 1 independently; we had mentors walk around the classroom to help anybody that might need it.  For the homework tonight, question 1 and 2 are great unit related questions. However, questions 3-5 are based on other math concepts: conversion, multistep-division, and equation solving. I expect the students to try ALL the questions however they are difficult and we will go through them tomorrow. Also, we will be starting review of the unit tomorrow and the quiz will be Monday.

In language, Ms.Downey went through character building from Shannen and the Dream for a better school. The students will continue that tomorrow.

Homework/Reminders

  • Math: 10.4 Relating Distance, Average Speed, and Time (must have input/output tables) - question 3-5 are from older units (must be attempted)
  • Language: Spelling lesson # 27 due Friday, Read Chapter 18 tonight
  • UOI: Work on anything as discussed by your group
  • Laptops need by next Monday
  • Bring in any work missing for Ms.Downey
  • Parent interview time sheets have been sent home

Friday May 4th: Grade 6 Exhibition

Dear Parents and Teachers of St. Jude's Academy,
We (Rishaan, Jonathan, and Lucas) have an exhibition project on animal agriculture. Have you ever thought about how much water it takes to make one hamburger? Well, the answer is 660 gallons of water. That is equal to showering for about two months straight! As part of our action we have decided to encourage people to go meatless on Mondays during the month of May. We are asking our St. Jude’s Family to join us and pledge to go meatless on Mondays, and make a positive impact on things it affects such as climate change! If you decide to help us by going meatless on Mondays, then you could save 1100 gallons of water, 45 pounds of grain, 30 square feet of forested land, ten pounds of carbon dioxide, and one animal’s life. We hope you decide to help us stop animal agriculture, and go meatless on Mondays. If you decide to go meatless on Mondays, please contact your teacher to receive a pledge form to be returned on or before April 30, 2018!
Thank you
Lucas, Jonathan, and Rishaan
Grade 6

Dear parents/ guardians,
We are Grade 6 students doing a project called exhibition. Our topic is child neglect. For our action we chose to do a clothing donation for the children that may have experienced neglect in our community. We will be donating all of the gently used clothing to the CAS and local charities. If you would like to donate any gently used clothing please place them in the box labeled Clothing Donations for the CAS and Surrounding charities. It can be found by the SJA back door where you come into the school in the morning. The last day to make a donation is Wednesday, April 26.

Sincerely,
Alexis, Alex and Wael (Grade 6)

As a reminder: St.Jude's Academy is now affiliated with an official soccer club called St. Jude's FC. Students of St.Jude are given a 33% discount that will allow them to join the club and play competitively with other soccer clubs this spring and summer (starting most likely April to September). The students will be working with excellent coaches and going to competitions on the weekend. Practices will be held (most likely) right after school twice a week. In April, besides the soccer field, the students will have a chance to play in our official soccer dome! I think this is a great opportunity!! The students have been given forms (I can e-mail extras), they should try to submit the form as soon as possible.

Have a great evening,

Ms.Khan
