Dear parents and students,
Today was Terry Tuesday were we commemorated the life of Terry
Fox and his struggle with cancer. We started off the day by taking up the math
questions about adding and subtracting; the discussions were great as I walked
around the classroom. Next, we watched a video about double-digit
multiplication, here is the link, and based on the video and our notes we then
attempted different practice questions including a word problem. I noticed that
the students struggled the most with making sure their place values lined up
(ones above the ones, tens above the tens) and with bringing the regrouping
digit down.
We then focused our attention to Spain; the students worked in
their partners to sort out research information and next steps. Tomorrow
students will be putting together all their information into ‘slide’ format for
the poster.
Another big focus for today was DRA’s; almost all the students
have completed the oral reading and are now completing their written portions
of the DRA. Tomorrow, we will be finishing them off.
As a class, we also watched a video about residential schools
and their impact and why Orange Shirt Day exists, the students then started
decorating their paper shirts and tomorrow we will finish those off.
Finally, the big event of today, the Terry Fox Run; the
students loved getting together with their friends and running for a cause. Here
are some pictures from the awesome run.
