Wisdom-full Wednesday

Good evening parents and students,

We had a busy day today, we started with reviewing our math homework and I rechecked all of the students’ work to make sure that they were making corrections in their book. Then, we began our new lesson of the day, Comparing and Ordering Large Numbers. We first learned three different strategies to help us: number line, place value chart, and place value matching. I really emphasize the importance of “showing your work”; I want to see the students pick at least 1 of the strategies to solve each question.

After math, we had reading buddies with Ms.Gillingham; the children were very excited to meet their buddies and start reading to them. The pictures are posted below.

For UOI today, we completed States of Matter Circus. The students went to different stations and completed activities and answered inquiry questions. Tomorrow, we will review our results and create conclusions. Here are some of the pictures from today’s activity.

I also reviewed all the first entries in the reading logs and I commented in each book the stars and next steps. Afterwards we looked at three exemplars from the first reading log and we discussed what we could do to improve our next one, key focus was spelling, punctuation, and paragraph structure.

Homework:
-Math: page 41-42 # 1,2,5-8 and challenge question# 4
-Language: Read for at least 20 minutes and complete 1 question in the reading log.
-Scholastic book order due Sept. 27
-Pick a country you would like to do for International Day (think about your own heritage)

Hope you have a great night,

Ms.Khan

P.S. I am sorry the blog is late tonight, I was having trouble uploading the pictures.
